How to Source Photography for Websites The Right Way

If you’re having a website built for you, or have one already, make sure that you have permission for the images you use on it. Under copyright laws, you can be sued for hosting a photo with breaches copyright laws and asked to pay a large sum of money to clear up the issue. Even if you take the photo off the website immediately after you are contacted by an image rights company, a photographer or their solicitors it can be too late.

It may be tempting to find an image on google and upload that but months or years down the line you could get a letter through the post about it with a large bill attached. We have seen a rise in cases over the years as more image searches are carried out… If you host an offending image on your website they can be found and reported automatically.

There are lots of websites you can get Royalty Free images for a small price or images which have a Creative Commons Licence. Images with a Creative Commons Licence usually means you have to attribute the photo to the owner and link back to their website.

Some great sites to search are:

https://pixabay.com/ – This website features loads of high-quality photos and many are free for commercial use with no attribution required. The photo used for this blog post was sourced here: https://pixabay.com/en/camera-photography-photograph-581126/

https://stocksnap.io/ – Like Pixabay, this website also features loads of high-quality photos and many are free for commercial use with no attribution required.
